My son just called. His neighbor's house burned last night.
My son woke up in the middle of the night to all the noise outside. He went out to take a look and saw that his house was on fire too.
He had to practically force the firemen to put out the fire on his house before it burned down too. They got the fire on his house out. Next come repairs. And there will be a lot of them.
The most visible is the siding on his house. And he just had it replaced. Part of his roof will need some attention. There is some water damage inside. His upstairs window was blown out by the force of the water. There is a bedroom up there. The carpeting was ruined and he was dumping buckets of water out the window as he was cleaning up.
I am certain there will be more found as they begin the work.
The important thing is that my son was not hurt, the dog was not hurt, and insurance will pay for the repairs.
I'm so glad no one was hurt and that things will be back to normal soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am thankful that it was not worse and that he was not hurt.
DeleteGood no one was hurt and he has insurance. I hope this is your adventure for the year.
ReplyDeleteThat would be nice. A year with no more bad adventures.
Deletepeace to learn no one was hurt dear Emma
ReplyDeletethis was nice of your son to take good control on things by calling help on time .such a wise person!
no doubt repair takes lots of money
best wishes for you dear friend!
Thank you. He has already had a contractor come to give an estimate for repairs. The insurance adjustor is scheduled to be there tomorrow. He is very fussy about his house so there will be some compromising I am sure.
DeleteDear Emma, such a luck that your son wasn't hurt! But it must have been a shock. I am very much afraid of fire.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine in Berlin just had all her kitchen in flames - such a lot of work, so much stinking of the ashes! I hope your son will soon be able to live in his house again.
He stayed with a friend last night but will probably move to a hotel. His insurance will pay for it.
DeleteEmma, we don't know each other, but I was a blog and email friend with Geo...I got an email from his son, who said Geo passed away this last weekend. He was a friend to me, and I think all of us.
ReplyDeleteMike...mm5.montana@gmail if you want to communicate.
Thank you for letting me know. He was a good man.
DeleteFirst, glad your son and his dog are OK, Emma, but what a terrible experience. It's good to know that the damages will be covered by insurance but how said after repairs had recently been completed. Still being safe is the most important outcome. I hope the neighbor will be as fortunate.
ReplyDeleteThe house with the original fire will have to be destroyed. The house on the other side of it at the least lost their siding. I do not know what further damage they might have suffered. The woman who owned the original house is older and had gone to live with her children a couple of weeks ago.
