Aging

I am now 3/4 of a centry in age.

My 75th birthday was last month. Who would have thought that I would be this age?

There has been so much history. Presidents have come and gone. Popes have come and gone. The Cold War has come and gone. Wars have come and gone. The governments of countries have not only changed leaders but in some cases the countries have become other countries.

My parents and grandparents are gone. I welcomed 6 siblings. Two of them are gone. Most of my aunts and uncles are gone. My ex-husband, the father of my children, is gone.

I was blessed with 4 children. They gave me 6 grandchildren. I now have 6 great-grandchildren. Fortunately they are all still healthy.

I have dealt with health problems at times. Colds, flu, measles, chicken pox, mumps, epilepsy, appendicitis, gall bladder, cancer, a stroke, cuts, and bruises. I am still here. I graduated from physical therapy last week. I am basically healthy and more than content with my life.

My goal from the time I was a child was to be 81 years old. I have changed my goal as we should all do from time to time. I think I am shooting for 100 now.

  1. I hope you had a happy birthday. Yes, we really have to change our goals from time to time. 81 sounds young now, doesn't it?

  2. First, hpe you had a a very happy 75th birthday. You should be well into the "spirit of 76" by now.

I am 81, as you may emember. I always said I wanted to live as long as my grandfather, 95 years and 9 months. As that goal doesn't seem all that long away all of a sudden, I have been saying ltely that I want to live as long as Dr. Denmark (a local pediatrician who practiced for 70 years, retired at 103, and lived another decade and more, dying at 114. A new high school in the next county was named in her honor.)

I am really only joshing about wanting live as long as Dr. Dnmark.

What I really want is to live to see great-grandchildren.

  3. Belated 🎂 wishes to you Emma, sorry for the late 🎉well wishes, but whenever we are away on an adventure, blog reading falls behind. Like yourself, most of my family, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles are gone and there is only 1 sibling and a few cousins remaining. Your revised goal is a good one too! Enjoy the year ahead.

    1. Thank you. The loss of loved ones is what I dislike about getting older.

  4. Dear Emma Happy birthday and heartfelt best wishes for entering the age circle you wanted to be. May Lord fulfill your wish to complete century my friend and each day you have will bring you peace of mind serenity of soul and health of body amen.
Where I live to be honest living longer than 60 feels scary to me because of least chances to be taken care of so I cannot wish for longer life but a life until I can look after myself.

  5. I will be 71 this year, still a shock. Happy Birthday!! My list of family has been dwindling for some time now. My two remaining siblings are back in Ohio and Illinois, so I see them seldomly. Hope your health is improving, seeing some positives along the way.

    1. Thank you. I have had a mostly happy life for which I am grateful. I do miss my siblings and the children who live so far away. My health is better than it should be I suppose.
