Good Reads

I love to read. I even read junk mail. I will read any book or magazine I get my hands on.

My mother loved the Lord of the Rings series. On January first every year she treated herself by reading it again.

Usually if she liked a book I would read it and enjoy it as well. For instance I loved the Mrs Polifax series. And I introduced her to Silence of the Lambs. She was not impressed. But usually we liked the books together.

I have tried to read Lord of the Rings at least half a dozen times. I cannot get past the first chapter. I have no idea what the problem is. So I have never read this iconic series.

I would be interested to know if there are books others have a problem reading.

  1. I like that Mrs. Polifax series and Lord of the Rings. One book I can not read is by Ferrante, the first one in a series, I don't recall the title, and it is a best seller.

  2. Mrs Polifax is quite the character. Some books are unreadable for certain people. Odd.

  3. I have never attempted or even been interested in reading The Lord of the Rings books, Emma. The types of books I would not even try reading are science fiction, westerns or horror. My favorites are historical fiction.

    1. I love biogrpaphies. I guess there is a bit of voyeurism in me. I like to try to understand why people do the things they do.

  4. I have not read the book but I have seen The Lord of the Rings trilogy and I really liked it
Until I was 30 I had read many books.
I didn't have money to buy what I wanted, so I went to public libraries and borrowed
Among authors I like Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,
Victor Hugo, George Orwell, Tom Robbins, Jack Kerouac
and many others as well as some Greeks
Last summer I started a book where the story is based on true events and it goes like this: A Spanish woman and two of her friends after exchanging messages (e-mail) decide in 2000 to travel to the country of the martyrdom of women that the West observes with apathy .. where a family hosts them ..
Not to mention the result of this trip was the book: "The Silent Scream" by Anna Tortachada
A cry for help from a proud people living in a hell on earth..
A silent cry from a myriad of women whose only reason for existence is to give birth to children

The book is well written, unfortunately I could not finish it, I hope this summer

    Good morning from GREECE
    With Friendly Love and appreciation

  5. Did I hear Silence of the Lambs?? It was made into a great movie which was filmed in Pittsburgh. When I was a student, I lived, studied and graduated in Pittsburgh. I love reading too and have 10-20 online newspaper apps on my phone. They are from many countries written in English to entertain me daily.

    1. Silence of the Lambs is one of the only movies I have seen that follows the book exactly.
