A Long Time Ago

I am getting old. I remember things from the past more easily than things from yesterday. I am still enjoying the present so I am okay.

Recently I have been missing when my children were little. As you know I have three sons and a daughter. I loved being their mother. Still do.

When they were little we did a lot of fun things together. A walk through the neighborhood allowed us to smell flowers, look for colors, say hi to squirrels, count the number of stones to the corner, see how many shapes we could find, describe what smells there were and so many other fun activities. Dancing in the rain and the snow.

In the house we made cookies and tarts, watched scary movies, and colored pictures. The Cub Scouts came once a week because I was their den mother. I took my daughter to dance class once a week.

At bedtime we read stories. Sometimes we were in my rocking chair and sometimes they were already in bed. It was a quiet time after a busy day.

We lived down the street from the zoo so we went there often. And there were a lot of special events for special days.

My parents lived down the street from Tiger Stadium. Any number of family members would hop on the bus and go to a Tigers game.

Nieces and nephews were welcome at my house as often as they wanted to come. Younger brothers and sisters also spent a lot of time there.

I certainly do not miss all the work involved in taking care of children. If you want them to grow up right it is a lot of work. It is worth it but I am over it.

I miss my children being little. They are all in their 50's now. Where did the time go?
