Bad Dreams

Do you remember your dreams? I sort of do.

Nightmares are another matter. I had several nightmares that I still remember in detail. They were from at least 60 years ago. I will share some of them.

The youngest brother at the time was in kindergarten. All five of us walked to school together in the mornings. We had to cross the train tracks that went through the center of town.

Children in our area were told not to get to close to a train rumbling through. If you got too close the train would suck you under.

In my nightmare we were walking to school. We had to wait as the freight train hurtled passed.

We all saw that our little brother was mesmerized by the rushing train. He was being drawn hypnotically toward the train.

We all screamed at him to stop but it was as if he could not hear us. In the blink of an eye he was sucked under the train.

I was amazed to see him under the train. He was not hurt but he was scared. His big brown eyes were open with fear. I was afraid he would try to crawl out as the train kept moving.

I woke up screaming for my brother to stay put. It still terrifies me just remembering those big brown eyes so full of fear.

I learned about what I remember being called a glass worm in high school. Whatever it was called it is a parasite that burrows under your skin. It then gives birth to little parasites. Then the host dies.

So I dreamed that my husband had gone into the store. I waited in the car, I looked down and saw a glass worm in my arm.

When my husband returned I told him about my parasite. He immediately yelled in concern. "I told you not to get one of those"

Then the worm broke open to give birth. I immediately died and all went black.

In another dream I was already dead. I was in a place about 4 feet above where I had lived. It was comforting to be able to see my family even if they did not know I was there. Then my baby sister died. She joined me. She was happy to see me because I had always babied her.

But she could see the rest of our family too. When she saw Mom she tried to get her attention. She was a Mama's baby.

When her mommy did not pay attention to her she began to cry. No matter what I did I could not comfort her. She was still crying hysterically when I woke up.

As I read these over they do not look frightening at all. But as I recalled them I was terrified all over again. I was going to write about some of the others but I cannot.

It took me about 4 weeks to write this. I will stop shaking soon.
