Hair
I have put off getting my hair cut for far too long. As an older woman I really need shorter hair. Long hair and gravity tend to make the face look more slack and older.
So I went to finally do it the other day.
I also need a perm. I am one of those people with absolutely no body or natural curl in my hair. So I need some help to not look like a wet rat.
The woman doing my hair asked what I wanted. I told her. She asked me how I wanted her to accomplish what I wanted. I told her to use whatever method she is comfortable with.
So she applied all the chemicals and cut my hair.
Then she handed me a mirror. I was shocked!
My hair is totally straight. No curl or body whatsoever. She cut it along the bottom. Nothing off the top.
When I said I did not want a "bowl" cut ( looking like someone put a bowl on my head to use as a guide to cut it) she told me that was what I asked for. I insisted she do something.
Well for one thing she would layer it just a bit. If I wanted to come back in two weeks they could curl the top a little better.
After the third time of me insisting that she fix it I gave up. I paid her. It was not right but I did it.
I will have to wait a while to have someone else try to repair the damage. Meanwhile I will wear my baseball cap whenever I have to go out.
I look like the Friendly Giant. I am not happy with my hair at all. And I always thought of my hair as one of my better features.
So for a time I will only go out when I have to. I sure hope I can find someone competent to repair the damage. So I am hiding.

That is sad, I have a great hairdresser here in France, she does not speak o word of English but she always gets my hair cut perfect. I have curly hair though and I think it covers a multitude of sins should it happen as I have discovered in the past. It will soon grow out and hope you find someone better next time. Tale care Diane
ReplyDeleteLuckily my hair grows fast. I have not always been happy about that but right now I am grateful.
DeleteAaack. Sorry to hear that. Unless you have someone you know and trust cutting your hair, it's always a crap shoot. She should have done something then and there to make you happier. The good news is that hair grows. And baseball caps are cool.
ReplyDeleteI do not look good in caps either... full cheeks. My mother could not wait for me to be born. She had all sorts of baby bonnets and was anxious to use them. She said I looked like a watermelon with a bonnet tied on it.
DeleteShe must have given you a bob, which is very popular with women over 60 (and some younger). However, it is not good on everyone. Going completely different with your hair had to be quite a shock. All I can say is to try working with it. Tuck one or both sides behind your ears or change your part. I have been a victim of some very bad haircuts but hair does grow and this is a problem that will go away. Meanwhile, you have all of our sympathies as most of us have all been in this situation more than once. The good thing is that you do have hair.
ReplyDeleteSince I wrote this I have gone to the store and bought items to help soften it a bit. They help but I am still unhappy with my hair.
DeleteI feel your pain. I've had a few baaaaad haircuts too. The good part is your hair will grow. And you will know who not to go to next time.
ReplyDeleteI certainly will not go there. I will not even go back to let her "fix" the damage done this time.
DeleteHmmm...get some recommendations from friends for hair dressers. What a mess.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a mess. That is a good suggestion.
DeleteI came over from Joanne's blog and had to chuckle when I read of your haircut. Here is the problem with today's young hairdressers--they have no clients with short hair. I am the only client my hairdresser has that has a short cut. It's taken her awhile to figure out how to cut "into" the hair rather than just around the bottom like they do with those who have long hair. She is good at coloring so I stay with her, and I'm thinking I probably wouldn't be any better off if I went elsewhere because they just don't train them to cut short hair.
ReplyDeleteI do not know whether to be encouraged or depressed. After some intense work on my part it looks a little better today. Not much but a little. Welcome to you.
DeleteI have been there. My heart goes out to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am thinking of getting a milk bucket to wear on festive occasions.
DeleteOh this is shocking and scary both dear Emma!
ReplyDeletei am really sorry that she could not give you desired result !
i am sure her job is in danger if she does not change her attitude because everyone is not as kind as you my friend!
good part is that your hair will grow soon hopefully :)
i want you to not take it on your nerves please !
I am fine. You are so caring. I guess it is vanity but I really want my hair to be presentable.
DeleteI have thinning hair, so the first thing I usually tell the hairdresser is to please don't make me look bald!
ReplyDeleteThere are times when I wish I had your problem. Then I realize that I am glad to have my hair. I hope your hairdresser does a good job.
DeleteIt's unfortunate that your hair appointment turned out so bad, Emma. I can understand how that feels as I too have had some disappointing experiences. I agree that as women age, shorter hair is easier so I have a cut and color treatment and luckily have found a good place to go. Hopefully, she will not retire anytime soon :-( I hope your hairs grows fast and that you find another person and the comment to ask for a recommendation might be helpful too.
ReplyDeleteI would have had a better cut if my two year old great granddaughter had done it.
