Lose Something?

I just saw a commercial that made me laugh.

Man: "I'm sorry you lost your mom."

Woman: "Thanks."

Man: "Did you look in the bookcase?"

Actually it was an advertisement for life insurance. The woman's mother had died. They were searching for her insurance policy.

I really wish writers for ads would pay attention to the way things are said.

  1. Did you look in the bookcase? Ha ha. My dear husband died, and I never say I lost him, it sounds careless. I say My husband died, for me that feels right.

    1. I wonder why people insist on not saying the word died. It is a perfectly good word. Using another word does not make it hurt less.

  2. thecontemplativecat here. So many badly planned and written commercials. Here in CA, Steve Garvey is being trashed by predictable ads. This one is mindless. "Steve Garvey voted for Trump twice....He is a conservative...he's a danger to..." I cannot wait to see the next one.

    1. Of course I do not see the commercials for Garvey. I prefer pleasant campaigns.

  3. That was a very unusual commercial, Emma, but then as I no longer watch commercial TV, I'm sure there are many that can be considered the same.

    1. Some are really well done. Another commercial I hate is the car repair insurance ad that lasts for 2...time them... minutes.
