But it is shocking to read that you and your family had to go through this horror two times.

It is is miracle that all of you were safe.

It is not only the mementos but lose the house is a very horrible thing because you lost all your valuable belongings and to get on with life would have required monumental strength of mind, effort and money.

I am glad you had such wonderful neighbors to help your family. God bless them.

Best wishes.Joseph Pulikotilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07074346261093541776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061832609518891075.post-26344838948644984402016-02-07T15:28:04.730-06:002016-02-07T15:28:04.730-06:00I would be nervous about real candles on a Christm...I would be nervous about real candles on a Christmas tree too. My mother was certain that the tree lights were unplugged before we left for my grandmother's house. The fire department determined that there was an electrical fire near the area of the tree. I am utterly afraid of fire (on a grand scale - I love candles), that must be from a previous life :-) My family jokes at Christmas how nervous I watch the real candles on it - they object to "artificial" electric ones, but I think they are a bit careless - I once saw (in a film) how a dry Christmas tree burns down in seconds...
Losing the mementos must be very hard for you. But your lives were saved, that is the main thing. When I go out into the fields each spring with neighbors I hardly know and, with mowers and chainsaws, cut firebreaks in this dry place, I am thankful that there are people who care enough to spend time and effort on local safety. We know others who can't, and mow their margins too. It's easier to help neighbors in advance than bring back what wildfires take. A lot of my neighbors are idiots, but I'm used to them and they help me for the same reason.Geo.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16221314320558128986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061832609518891075.post-46946960162621036052016-02-06T14:21:04.828-06:002016-02-06T14:21:04.828-06:00That is true. Finding out suddenly that everything one has has been burnt out, must be very difficult and sad. Fortunately, no-one got seriously hurt in any occasions, and at least one good thing was left after those events: solidarity. The furniture donated by the people and the attempt of the school principal to save anyone who could have been in the house, even if that meant putting his own life at risk.
By the way, as a foreign person, I've never understood the expression "They get along like a house on fire" being used to describe people who like each other very much and have a good relationship.Ana Bailunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07399615369919172144noreply@blogger.com
