Even though the family no longer owns it, it cannot be divided in any way. That keeps the developers out. And they really wanted it bad.Emma Springfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10543689047463574012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061832609518891075.post-31482684571692088032013-09-27T16:22:56.232-05:002013-09-27T16:22:56.232-05:00I live on my little acre of land as you know. But no way will it be sold in my lifetime and I doubt if EHS George will sell it either. Some things are worth more than money I know you will agree.john bainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15624118202659480062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061832609518891075.post-18328773495861373772013-09-25T13:07:41.974-05:002013-09-25T13:07:41.974-05:00That is fascinating. If the government deems that your land is of more value to them than it is to you they can take it. Of course they have to give you compensation for it but they get to decide what is "fair market value". So instead of being the nouveau riche we are the never rich. These are the kinds of stories that should be passed down to the generations of a family. I would love to know more about it. I will definitely watch for the movie the next time they show it.Emma Springfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10543689047463574012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061832609518891075.post-36110834670241453342013-09-25T05:49:30.416-05:002013-09-25T05:49:30.416-05:00Did you ever see the TV movie "Band Of Brothe...Did you ever see the TV movie "Band Of Brothers"? The land in Toccoa that the army camp was built upon was ACQUIRED by the government from my great grandfather on my mother's side. He was forced to sell it to them, he had no choice, thousands and thousands of acres at a very low cost. The good thing, a great portion of the land is under the control of the US Forestry and cannot be built upon, so at least no subdivisions or gas stations are on it! It must have been quite an upsetting thing for my great grandfather having to give up that land which had been in the family since 1800.<br />We could have been wealthy women together! :-)Kay G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.com
